With competition so intense right now, creators need new ways to increase viewership. But only a few authors know about reliable ways to promote content. Have you heard about content translation into other languages and channel localization? Creators are conquering foreign markets with the help of these tools.

According to YouTube Analytics, on average, two-thirds of a channel's views come from foreign viewers. Very often, English-language channels generate more views in Asia, and vice versa, proving that your content can be popular in some countries despite the language barrier and lack of proper video optimization. Can you imagine how effective content designed specifically for foreign viewers will be if you take into account local specifics and adapt it to the audience? However, it requires a lot of effort to meet the needs of local viewers and provide the channel with full localization.

How to Choose a Language

Search the YouTube Studio Analytics to find the geographic locations of all your viewers. This data will help you determine which is the best language to begin to translate content. Here are the steps:

  • Visit the YouTube Studio, click “Analytics,” and follow ADVANCED MODE.
  • Review info in the Audience tab.

Subtitles are the easiest way to attract viewers from other countries. Such localization works if the content is unique and of very high quality — then the issue of viewing and reading is not a challenge but is organically combined and fades into the background.

Some websites, including YouTube, offer automatic subtitle translation, but it doesn't always match the original text. The main reason is that such materials do not need to be translated word by word but localized for a specific country.

How can that be done?

  • Select the video you need and go to the Subtitles section.
  • Click "Add language".
  • Select a language. The selected language appears in the subtitle list.
  • To add a local name and description, you need to click "Add".

Next, you have two options: upload a text file with subtitles or print subtitles manually.

After downloading the subtitles, don't forget to follow Analytics. To do this, go to the "Advanced Mode" — "Subtitles and Language" tab, where you can see how many people watched the video with subtitles or the localized version in order to understand how relevant the content is. If such videos get more views, feel free to continue adding translation subtitles.

But this method has a major drawback: If you plan to localize videos with subtitles only, you may not achieve great results. Even if the video gets to the top, a certain percentage of viewers will turn off the video after hearing unfamiliar speech.

Translation of Existing Videos and Channel Localization

You can create additional channels that adapt the content of your main channel for other countries. Let's say your channel is in English. You can create another channel entirely in Spanish or Hindi as an alternative and a stable source of new traffic and as a way to grow your brand.

  • Determine which audience and residents of which countries are the most active among your viewers.
  • Identify the languages they speak.
  • Then create the required number of channels.
  • After that, voiceover the video from your main channel.
  • Localize content (metadata and design).
  • And finally, get additional traffic and take your personal brand to the international level.

Now you are probably asking yourself, “What is the most efficient way to translate my content?” The answer is to localize your content. Localization will allow you to form a diverse international audience. This will also increase user activity and provide more earning opportunities. Let's see how to create a quality voice translation. There are two main ways.

Option 1

Independent translation. It’s a complex process that requires full involvement. The creator has to:

  • Find professional translators, narrators, preferably native speakers.
  • Synchronize and edit video with a new voiceover.
  • Analyze competitors and identify the optimal strategy for the promotion of new channels.
  • And the main thing: patience — since working on new voiceovers is a complex process that requires your time and finances.

You can also use platforms like Fiverr.com, Upwork.com, and Freelancer.com to find freelancers that fit your budget.

Option 2
